Psychotherapy with EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique aka 'Tapping'

I've seen depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain and conditions such as fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, M.E., phobias, confidence, self-esteem and relationship issues quickly resolved with huge gains in feelings of freedom and empowerment that dramatically improve the quality of my client's lives. 

 

How Does EFT Work?

​

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) - usually referred to as 'tapping' - is a relaxation technique based on the principles of acupuncture, but without needles.  Instead, you use your fingertips to tap on a specific sequence of acupuncture points.  Sometimes called "acupressure for the emotions,” EFT is a highly focused energy psychology method that rapidly releases the emotional impact of stressful or traumatic life events from the body-mind system. Tapping on the energy meridian points sends signals directly through the body to the amygdala - the 'fight, flight or freeze' part of the brain - to calm down and relax which, in turn, quickly reduces stress symptoms and offers greater clarity and change in perspective. 

 

A lot can happen to us throughout life that hurts us, that leave within us unresolved negative emotions that reside in the gut and cause disruption in the body’s energy system and influence the quality of our experience of reality. The underlying principle of EFT is that all emotions and thoughts are forms of energy that have very real physical manifestations that affect all functions of the body, as well as our energetic magnetic field which draws to us our experience.  While the human body possesses a natural healing potential, stress and emotional problems can stand in the way with excess levels of the stress hormone cortisol that wreaks havoc on our biological systems.  EFT is clinically proven to significantly reduce cortisol levels in just one session.

 

Combining psychotherapy with tapping not only excels at stress relief but, by using significant (to you) words relevant to your issues, this practice can remove limiting beliefs and resolve emotions developed in the past to restore balance - like you wouldn't believe! I'm frequently amazed myself! We can get to the root cause of presenting issues that are deep in the subconscious and can literally interrupt an unwanted pattern and rewire the brain to make better decisions and take better actions with tapping, hence EFT can resolve a problem fast and the results will be permanent. Clinical psychologist David Feinstein notes that in all the studies of EFT that have included a follow-up assessment, the effects of EFT have been shown to last over time. In clinical trials measuring the effects of EFT versus gold-standard CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), both were found to be equally effective although EFT was shown to produce results in around a third of the time it took for those who practised CBT.  After a session, I will create a specific EFT recording to tap to regularly that will speed up the healing experience.

 

Further clinical evidence reveals that tapping addresses imbalances of neurotransmitters and hormones, can increase blood flow, reduce muscle tension, decrease inflammation and relieve physical pain.  The epigenetic effects of EFT include up-regulation of immunity genes and downregulation of inflammation genes.  Because tapping is a gentle and easy-to-follow technique, anyone struggling with stress, anxiety or physical pain can benefit from it.  This is another reason why I love to use it - after just one session, my clients are equipped with a self-healing tool that can be used anywhere, at any time, to ease any stress and circumstance quickly without the use of any equipment, medications or supplements - or even a therapist!

RTT - Rapid Transformational Therapy

Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) is a pioneering therapy based on neuroscience, that offers fast, effective results by combining the most beneficial principles of Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy, NLP and CBT.  Developed over a period of 30 years by world-leading therapist, Marisa Peer, RTT delivers extraordinary, permanent change from physical, emotional and psychological pain by getting to the root cause of presenting issues, reframing core beliefs, values, habits and emotions that are deep in the subconscious.

 

The Process

 

After an initial 20 minute chat to establish your presenting issues and what you want to achieve, we will proceed with hypnosis that leads to deep relaxation of the nervous system to increase your focused attention and achieve a heightened state of awareness. This means that, even though you are fully aware of everything going on around you, your attention is so focused within that you are not bothered by and can ignore the outer world.  I will then lead you to regress in your mind back to various scenes in your life where you formed a belief or an emotional imprint that has some connection to the issues you are experiencing in your current life.  This generally, but not always, goes back to early childhood, sometimes back to the womb, and from time to time, to past lives too.  And then we look at understanding the connections, which - although we don't stop there - in itself provides extraordinary liberation & healing.

 

Your subconscious mind records everything and holds all the answers that often the conscious mind cannot recall.  If you are concerned about the trauma that may appear, please note you cannot re-live anything even if you wanted to.  What we will be doing is simply reviewing past times that no longer exist but have not been emotionally resolved and are unwittingly affecting your biochemistry and the quality of your life. I will be guiding you at all times and reminding you of this if you feel uncomfortable so you know you are safe and supported. It's actually the scenes that trigger upset that are the most necessary to address and from where the most healing and freedom comes.  Surprisingly, it's frequently the case that the thing you might 'dread' revisiting is not the biggest problem, and something seemingly insignificant as a 'normal' childhood incident can be the moment that actually laid the imprint in your psyche that is hindering you today.  

 

Between the scenes and at the end, there are a number of proven psychotherapeutic healing processes that we will use.  As with EFT, this is a very effective, loving and supportive therapy that offers resolution and empowerment, and only when we have addressed everything of the scenes and gone through the healing methods appropriate and best for you will you be brought out of hypnosis.  Either during the end of our session or immediately afterwards, I will create a positive 15-20 minute hypnosis recording for you to listen to every day, at least once a day, for a minimum of 21 days.  This is essential and here's why; during the therapy session we interrupt established neurological patterns to free you from past limiting beliefs that were at the root of your current issues.  However, those beliefs need to be replaced with new beliefs to create the outcome you want in your life.  Beliefs form by thinking certain thoughts over and over again. In physical terms, new synapses fire in the brain during the session, (like new seeds being sown) but these synapses need to grow and wire together to make a permanent change. Without the repetition, you could be habitually bringing back the old belief and nothing will change long term.

 

This therapy is as effective as the style of EFT-Psychotherapy I offer, but after an initial free consultation, it will be easier for us to establish what will potentially be most effective for you personally.  I have often found for those who have never sought therapy before, that RTT is most highly effective during a second or third appointment - if needed - after you've had a chance to talk things through fully, relieved issues with EFT and we've established a rapport.  It is understandably 'bigger' in our minds to use a therapist for hypnosis, especially if we have much trauma to resolve, which most of us do in some form.  However, if you would prefer RTT as a first therapy, I know you will find it very effective.

I love both these modalities individually due to the results but highly recommend the use of both with longer term and chronic issues
